The process of integrating the lagoon of Le Brusc and the shallows of the archipelago of Les Embiez into the Natura 2000 European network continues. Now that the work of mapping, assessing and auditing the area is complete, the time has come to validate the objectives document on the basis of the preliminary results.
The Natura 2000 approach is characterised by scientific studies and concerted action by stakeholders. The aim is to define the issues and objectives which contribute to maintaining or improving the conservation of those natural habitats and species which secured the site the Natura designation. With this aim in mind, France has decided to implement a specific objectives document for each of the sites known as the DOCOB (territorial management plan).
Consensus and plan of action
“Without pre-empting the decisions of the Steering Committee, it is conceivable that the setting up of organised mooring, respect for legislation (in particular, the by-law which aims to prohibit all perturbation in the lagoon), information for and education of the general public... will be the actions required to maintain the exceptional quality of the coastal and underwater landscapes around the archipelago of Les Embiez.”
The Paul Ricard Oceanographic Institute will play a key role.
